Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to manage financial activities related to construction projects. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate job cost records, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting project managers with budgeting and cost tracking. The Construction Accountant plays a key role in helping the company maintain profitability and financial integrity across all projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for construction projects, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Track project costs, budgets, and contracts to ensure accurate job costing and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statement and supporting schedules.
  • Review and process subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and vendor payments in compliance with contract terms.
  • Monitor project billing, including progress billings, change orders, and retainage.
  • Assist project managers and executives in analyzing project performance and providing financial insights.
  • Assist with audits, financial reviews, and year-end closings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and record keeping for all project-related financial activity.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in construction or job cost accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction billing, contracts, and job cost tracking.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with project managers, vendors, and leadership.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with AIA billing and progress billing formats.
  • Familiarity with WIP (Work-In-Progress) reporting.
  • Knowledge of retainage, lien releases, and construction compliance documentation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
